So, how does the referee program in San Clemente really work ? Well, there is a small set of administrative people in the background helping almost 300 dedicated volunteers who put on their yellow striped jerseys on Saturdays (and some Sundays and Mondays and ...) to let over 2000 kids play soccer.

Regional Referee Administrator (RRA)

The RRA implements, monitors, and maintains the AYSO National Referee Program (including program delivery, staff development, communication, and coordination) at the regional level.

  • They ensure that each referee, assistant referee, and youth referee registers to be a volunteer via eAYSO in accordance with the National Support & Training Center applicable policies and guidelines.
  • They appoint a Regional Director of Referee Instruction and a Regional Director of Referee Assessment to implement ongoing referee training and evaluation programs.
  • They recruit a Referee Scheduler to manage the day-to-day administrative tasks of getting referees signed up to cover games.
  • They manage the ordering and distribution of uniforms and equipment for referees.

Regional Director of Referee Instruction (RDRI)

The RDRI manages the training of new referees and promotes the ongoing training and certification upgrades of existing referees.

Regional Director of Referee Assessment (RDRA)

The RDRA manages the observation and assessment of referees who are going through the process of certification upgrades.

Regional Misconduct Coordinator

The Misconduct Coordinator reviews all Match Reports submitted by local referees, and coordinates any actions or responses that need to be taken as the result of an incident with other Regional managers and the corresponding Area staff.

Referee Scheduler

The Referee Scheduler manages the database of active referees in the Region and the online game coverage signup schedule for the current season. Contact the Referee Scheduler with questions about:

  • Getting a username and password for the online scheduling system
  • Getting added to or removed from the email distribution list and the active database
  • Having signups in the online scheduling system changed
